These are the pictures I really wanted to post yesterday, but was too tired to reorient them.

Moving to the Country

My dear friend Mimi has encouraged me to begin a blog with all of my crazy stories. Each time we talk I seem to have some laughable updates on what a three year old can accomplish. We're starting to find that our little Jackson will have stories of his own too.

Reading Mimi's blog makes me want to reflect on some of the more serious things in life too, so we'll so how this whole thing develops. For today I'll just talk about the things that are going on with us right now.

WHAT'S GOING ON WITH US: We are currently living behind Jeff's parent's house in a 1200 square foot "guest house" that was built for Jeff's aging grandparents. It has been sitting empty for a few months and his grandmother has generously let us set up shop here while our home in Texas is on the market. We have been here less than two months and I'm feeling very comfortable. Our move was very sudden in a way, but not completely unexpected as we have always talked about returning home one day. Texas was feeling more and more like home as well, but it has been an easy adjustment returning to Oklahoma. There are plenty of things I miss about Texas, but you can't beat having family around.

I love having grandparents close to us. I love watching the kids play with their cousins. I love that whenever my mom has a day off of work we can play with her. I love letting the kids play in the dirt and taking hikes in our own backyard.

My only dislike so far has been how much my husband likes his job. That sounds so terrible, I know. I am very happy for him and I want it for him, but I feel a little left behind as it seems to consume most of his thoughts and excitement. I just miss having him around more. There are good things, like flexible hours to the point where he can spend the morning with us. I love that. I love watching him play with the kids and take them places. He isn't home for dinner much and only gets to see the kids before they go to bed on a "sometimes" basis. That is a little hard on me ... for their sake and for my own. It helps a lot that we have Granny and Papa right here with us, sharing dinner responsibilities and helping out so much. I don't want to be a burden to them though as they certainly have plenty of other things to worry about. They are so good to us.

I've been enjoying living in "nature." There are white tailed deer roaming about in the mornings and lots of birds and critters. I know that it is to Papa's dismay, but we've loved watching a mole dig up holes all in the backyard. He'll let us watch while he does it sometimes. We find spiders to study and caterpillars to give leaves to. Both grandparents have fish we can feed in the lake/pond and ducks for Jackson to quack at.

LINCOLN STORY: After a long nap in the car while mom and dad drove around looking at houses, it was time to stop and get a bite to eat. Mom and dad were feeling brave and stopped at a restaurant where you actually all get out of the car and they have menus and waiters and the whole deal. Maybe we shouldn't have been so brave. As we approached the front door Lincoln stopped walking... knowing what this usually meant, mom asked, "do you need to go potty?" Before anything could be done about it, he dropped his pants and watered the landscaping. We're going to have to work harder at teaching when it is appropriate to "use the grass."

WHAT JACKSON HAS TO SAY: Jackson's first exciting word is "duck." He says mom, dad, hi and bye quite a bit. Yesterday he said "candy" when Granny was handing out sweet tarts. I love it when he "quacks" at any and every animal, especially the llama and the horse next door because it's all he can say.
