While talking with my neighbor recently I found myself saying, "I can't have any more, but we might adopt one day." I don't know if I had ever said that out loud, but I have definitely thought about it plenty.
When Jeff sat me down for a serious discussion that lead with, "I don't want to overwhelm you, but..." it came as a relief when he told me that he has been feeling like we need to consider adoption. It was an easy response of, "me too." We opened up some discussion and lots of prayer. We both feel like it is a part of our future, we just don't know the details yet. I debated talking to the kids about it. It is such an early stage and these things take time. They brought it up the next day saying, "if we ever find a kid that doesn't have a mom and dad I think we should bring them home to live with us" as we drove to the zoo.
We ran into a friend from our new ward while at the zoo and I felt comfortable enough with her to share our discussion from the night before and what the kids had said. She told me that she and her husband had been through the whole process and were ready with their giant stack of paperwork when she learned she was pregnant. We talked a lot about faith and the miracles that God places in our path when we put things in His hands and trust in Him.
That night we were scheduled to go to the Chicago Temple with our stake. Many people from our ward were in our session which is always a treat. The same new friend was there as well and she approached me after the session. She said that we looked like a couple who had just found out that they are pregnant. That's pretty much what it feels like. Minus the nausea.
