Omniplex and MaGa

The Omniplex is Lincoln's favorite place. He would go there every day if he could. We took the kids there yesterday while my mom had the day off. It is still sort of hard for me to go there with both of them by myself (since Lincoln has a habit of doing his own thing and not paying attention to where anyone else is!). We went in the afternoon and practically had the place to ourselves. We spent hours in the newer area where you can build your own marble track out of junk. We started out trying to use the wall and made a few good tracks there, but then found it to be easier to work toward the floor. Lincoln came up with a lot of clever ideas and we all had fun running and changing the track. I'm impressed with how much they've "spruced" the place up since I had been there last (a few months ago). They have added quite a few new things and done a great job with their graphics and set-ups. They also have a new show where they blow lots of things up. Both kids were too scared to sit through the whole thing, but it was quite entertaining. My mom is so great at doing everything with the kids. She even braves the ginormous slide! I wish I had video of her showing us her kick boxing moves today.

Today is mom's birthday and we had a lovely evening at their house. Happy Birthday MaGa! (Jackson CAN say grandma now, but he's not willing to give up the nickname just yet - I don't think she minds!)

The sad part was also loading up a truck with all of John's stuff as he heads off to Austin. It's not entirely sad as I am so excited for him to begin a new part of his life and get to be with Bettina and have a cool new job. Still, I'll miss having him around and doing so much work together. Hopefully we'll still do some projects long distance. Since neither of us are phone people we tend to be distant when we're far away. Hopefully we can at least IM and keep up that way. We've had lots of practice at that.

Hot day at the Zoo

I wanted to take the kids to do something fun yesterday. I've been talking about taking Jackson to the zoo and he really wanted to go. Lincoln was not too excited about the idea, but guess what... he had to come too. I could tell right away that it was going to be a LONG day (or, as I quickly decided - a very SHORT visit!). Before we even got to see any animals Lincoln bolted backwards. He was headed for a shady spot because it was too "hot and sunny" on the path. We took about three breaks before actually visiting any animals. The animals were NOT the priority of the day. We ended up finding as many of the shaded bronzed animals as we could to climb on, and as many of the mister things as we could to keep cool. I talked them into going to the aquarium because it was inside and we finished up our very small loop of zoo in about the same amount of time it usually takes us to see most everything else.

Me the entire day: "Come on! Come on! Come on! You can do it. Let's race to the next shady spot!

I did a lot of child carrying and a lot of giving up on seeing actual animals.

We still had a fun time, just had to change the expectations!

I had to laugh as we were getting back in the car when Lincoln said, "Now we can go to the Omniplex (our science museum)"

Wishful thinking mister!
