Hey! We Match

I put the boys in matching shirts yesterday as we headed off to the park for playgroup. I was hoping to catch a couple of cute photos while they were playing (successful I think!). It was super hot so we ended up spending most of our park time in the shady areas pretending to cook crazy meals with the bark. Lincoln created, for example, some health foods that tasted like cake. We didn't last as long there as we might have... partially because of the heat and partially because of a summer camp bus showing up! Nicole and her three girls (new family in our ward) joined us back at the house to extend our fun a little bit longer and the kids enjoyed playing together. It was a stand out day for me because I hadn't been sick ALL DAY.

Our neighbors stopped by just after dinner and asked if the matching shirts meant we were going somewhere. Jackson promptly told them we were going to Frontier City (not the plan). I considered it though and thought, 'hey, why not?'. We packed up and headed out to take advantage of our season passes. Jeff has taken the boys a few times on his own when I wasn't feeling well. This time I was up for it and joined the fun. I'm amazed at my own feeling of joy in watching those boys' faces light up. It is actually a delight for me to go and watch them and hear their reactions to things even though I can't participate in most of the rides. Lincoln takes the recorded voice before the ride begins very seriously and often says, "I'm enjoying my ride!" On one ride they were the only ones on it and the girl offered to turn the lights on for them. Lincoln said, "The lights make me enjoy the ride even more!" On another ride there was no line so they let the kids stay and ride a second time. Boy was the girl surprised when Lincoln ran up and gave her a hug on his way out saying, "I'm gonna give you a hug because you let me ride twice!"

On one of our last rides of the night Jackson looked over at Lincoln and said, "Hey! We have same shirt on! We match!" That made me laugh as they had been wearing those clothes the entire day and he just took notice. Jackson also took the picture of me on the ferris wheel. I thought he did a pretty good job.

Marna's in Town!

It is always so much fun when Marna is in town and we get a chance to get together! Tuesday night we met up with Heather at the new Thai place and taste tested our old favorite recipes (yum). We decided on a whim to drive out to Pops afterwards and we sat on their patio and enjoyed some unique sodas to finish off a lovely evening. I even finally found a respectable grapefruit soda there (a pregnancy craving I've been having and couldn't find a proper solution) - but not quite worth it at $2 a bottle! On Thursday we spent the afternoon at Heather's house where she has so many fun things for the kids to do in the backyard. We all had a great time (despite the heat). The boys were thrilled to swim and drive cars all around the yard. Marna brought her niece and nephew and Heather had her own three kids plus an extra she is watching while her friend is on vacation. I got the worst mom of the year award that day for lack of re-application on the sunscreen. Poor Jackson got the worst of it on his arm. He was wearing a life vest instead of his usual floaties - and the area of his arm where the floaties usually cover weren't used to seeing the sun! Both Marna and Heather also demanded that I share a crazy Lincoln moment. I have no idea where this came from... never seen it before or since, but what a "proud" moment when your five year old walks up to your long time friend and says, "Look! I can make a pyramid" while pinching his nipple in half.

And while I'm sharing funny Lincoln sayings, I loved what he said this morning at breakfast. "Wow. My orange juice is yellow, my cup is yellow, even my waffle is yellow. What a great day it is going to be!"
