About the Boys

Lincoln:
So frustrating, but also so entertaining and spiritual.  I loved the prayer he said the other night at dinner.  He said that we were "grateful for everything... and I mean everything, even the hard stuff because it teaches us and even robbers."

I still struggle with Lincoln and clothes.  I get frustrated knowing that he is 10 years old and that we have been working on this for SOOO long.  I often have to get his clothes for him and then plead with him to get dressed every day.  He is also still struggling with pulling on this strings of his clothes and has holes in his shirts nearly every day, sometimes small and sometimes the whole sleeve or neckline is just dangling by a thread.  He told me that he is starting to be teased about it at school and it is just now starting to bother him. He said that he has now asked a few friends that he can trust to tell him if they see him doing it, because he doesn't even realize that it is happening.  I need to come up with something else for him to do with his hands.  I understand needing to do something with your hands - I am pretty much always wiggling my toes to some song in my head because I can't sit still either. We just need to find something less destructive!

Jackson:
Jackson does great socially and is a leader among his peers.  He does well in school and he is well liked and in student council. He has grown so quickly that it seems he is still getting used to his new body.  He is always in a hurry to get to the next thing and I keep reminding him to slow down and finish what he's currently doing before moving on. He is super sweet to his mama and often asks if he can rub my back or give me a hug. He is the first to notice if I'm upset and will come and talk to me.  He also tends to try to take over and help me if Dad isn't around.  He is very responsible and remembers (for the most part) when he has something he needs to take care of.  This morning they had "Muffins for Moms" at his school and he was asked to come early and be a helper.  Last night when we were talking about going to Davis's concert he said, "I can't - I have too much to do.  I need to go to bed early so that I can get to school on time."

Jackson loves to be outside and would always be playing with friends if that were at all possible. He loves the pool and is constantly under the water while in it, such a fish.  My favorite quote right now is the Teacher Appreciation card he made. He wrote his own message in it "You sparkle like the night sky."  He does want to be a writer when he grows up, perhaps a poet?

Harrison:
What can I say about Harrison? He loves to snuggle, chat your ear off, sing all of the words to so many songs, read books, eat sweets (and nearly nothing else!), play Memory, etc.  He is very dramatic and thus very entertaining. He likes things to be a certain way and has a lot of routines.  After school, for example he gets two stamps attached to his daily report.  I put one in the box, the one with tape, and he does the other one.  We have to go out a certain door and he has to skip the bottom step. I'm pretty sure he has no idea what "hurry" means, because he has his own plans for how things are going to go!  He likes to match his own clothes and lives for donut Friday.  Every day he asks me what day it is and what we do on that day.  He loves Monday for show and share, Saturday for "stay at home" day (Sunday is tolerable too) and Friday for "donut day."  All of the rest of the days are "lame."

Dad:
I don't usually include Dad in my "about the boys" posts, but today I need to.  I am very proud of my sweet hubby and all that he does.  He works so hard and is so generous. He has been looking for a new position so that he can be home more and travel less, even if it means less money.  I know that is a hard decision, but he is choosing his family and that means so much to me.  He was recently offered a position in his "dream job," but it was back in the DFW area and he didn't even consider it an option because we know that we want to stay near family. The extended family is so important to us all and we don't want to leave them again!

With that, I leave you with the pictures he took of all of us having a particularly silly dinner recently.  Jackson even laughed so hard that his green smoothie came out his nose.  Ew.
