Germs and Hours

Recently Jackson has had to use the thermometer. I used the under the tongue kind instead of our usual ear kind (because I can't find it). He brought it to me again the next day and wanted to do it again. Sure, fine, whatever. Then he started to put it in Harrison's mouth and I told him he couldn't because it had germs on it. We had to change out the plastic wrap that is on it.

Yesterday I noticed it wasn't in it's place so I asked him where he put it.

"I threw it in trash because it had germs on it."

This morning I told him that we are going to the zoo.

"When we going to zoo?"

"In about an hour."

"Hey! That's the same time we go to gymnastics."

I had several comments about "my" good photo of Lincoln yesterday. I'll acknowledge here that this photo and the one of Lincoln yesterday were taken by Michelle.

It Finally Clicked!

Lincoln has known his letters and the sounds they make since before he turned two. I remember being awed that he could learn that so early (mostly from the Letter Factory video). I remember quizzing him in the car on the way to the Fort Worth zoo and being completely shocked that he knew them all. I thought he would be an early reader, but it just wasn't happening. I've had a hard time getting him to even try. When he was 4 or 5 I would ask him to try to put the sounds together to make words. He told me, "no... I'll read when I'm 6." He has known a few words for a while (right on track with the other kids in his class), but he didn't like to try to figure out new ones. Well, last night we sat down for our reading time and he just started reading. He got through a whole page and was so impressed with himself that he decided to try the next one too. I helped him on the tough words, but he read about 15 pages to me. It was so fun! I asked him if it was fun being able to read and he said, "it feels kind of weird," with a great big grin on his face. Yeah for reading, even it took until the END of being 6!

Smile Bringers

Harrison is finally getting the hang of the Johnny Jumper. This was a huge hit with the other two, so I had been disappointed that he didn't like it.

Jackson has been home sick the past few days (nothing big - he just has a cough, but is otherwise feeling happy and fine). He and I are really enjoying our time together. He came up with this project all on his own - we had to find the pictures online, print out the characters, cut them out and then I was so surprised to see him use tape to make them stand up.

Lincoln has always been an early riser (no matter what time he goes to bed), so it was no surprise that he was up before me, but it was a surprise to see him trying to make the baby happy while I was still waking up.

Spitting Babies

When we were in Idaho we spent a lot of our time with my cousin Corey, his wife Liz and their sweet baby Camree (who is just a few weeks younger than Harrison). Camree is such a quiet sweet baby, hardly makes a peep. They know she is tired when she puts her fingers in her mouth. While we were together she was in her bubble blowing phase. She blew raspberries all day long. My boys started calling her the spitting girl. Jackson moved Harrison away from her one time telling him, "don't go by that girl. She spits."

Lately Harrison has been doing a little more of the raspberry blowing. We told Jackson that he was doing the same thing as "the spitting girl." He had to really think about it, and then he declared, "well, I guess I still like him."

He has also been pulling up on everything. He is having a hard time going to bed because he keeps standing up in his crib and he doesn't know how to get back down.

He also finally said, "mamamama."
