Counting Our Blessings

We are hugging our babies a little tighter today.  After the craziness of Monday night I thought our adventures were over, but it turned out to be a pretty crazy 24 hour period.

Everyone was tired from being up so late the night before, so I kept everyone home for some down time. I took the kids out to lunch and as we got out of the van at home one of the boys bumped the lock button, locking sleeping Harrison in the van with the keys in it.  I knew that the other key to the van was with Jeff, so I called 911.  An officer was at our home very quickly and he had tools to get it right open.  I was so grateful.

My mom came over in the afternoon to help me unpack and we got all of the toy room done.  Shortly thereafter Rose, Jade and Evelania came by to visit and see the new house.  They were excited to test out the pool, so we got ready to swim.  Harrison got out the door before I did. Others were already in the pool, but hadn't noticed that he jumped right in off of the diving board without his floaty.  When I came outside I immediately asked where he was and spotted him trying to stay afloat in the deep end.  Just his forehead was above water and I jumped right in to get him. Jade swam over and helped me get him out.  He never lost consciousness and he quickly spat out a stomach full of water.

He was pale, but talking with us. His color took a little while to return, so we decided to call 911 and make sure he was checked out. They asked us to have someone come to the door to meet them when they came and they were there by the time Jade got to the door.  He became a little more listless and wouldn't talk to anyone but me. They said that they thought he should be taken to the hospital and we did.  He slept through the ambulance ride (which was a casual, no siren ride) and was back to himself shortly after he got set up in his room.

Gene (my father-in-law) met us at the hospital arriving just as we did and was wonderful. He kept Harrison smiling and happy.  He also drove my car key back to the house so that I would have transportaion once they released us.  They kept him overnight for observation and he did great.

When we got home he told Jackson that the doctors "let us spend the night."

I'm so grateful to all of the people who helped us and that my sweet boy is doing so well.  He had quite the day.  I've only called 911 three times in my life and two of them were yesterday, both for him.

Ouch

We got home a little late tonight after a birthday party and headed straight upstairs for bed.  Lincoln and Harrison were being especially goofy (slap happy tired!) and were doing things to make each other laugh. We got jammies on through the goofiness and one of Lincoln's stunts was to put on a construction hat and a q-tip hanging out of each ear.  After prayer I sent him to his room to go to bed.  On the way there he lay down and landed on one of the q-tips which punctured his ear drum.  Ouch.

He was screaming and I yelled for the other boys to get their shoes back on.  Lincoln had run my phone battery all the way down on the ride home (it was my failed attempt to keep him quiet so that Harrison would fall asleep).  His ear was bleeding and I wasn't sure how serious that was...  E.R.?  Without a phone to call the nurse line I decided I'd just better take him.  I dropped the other two off at a sweet friend's house (where Harrison proudly declared "anybody who calls me cute I will smash them in the face!") and we were in and out of the urgent care pretty quickly.

They sent us home with some pain meds, an antibiotic so that it doesn't get infected and an appointment with the ear, nose, throat doctor later in the week.  I charged my phone while in the office and Jeff called to tell me that I had left the prescriptions at the clinic. We had to turn around and go back, but it worked out well because they had tried to phone in the prescription and learned that they didn't have any... they were able to change it to something else that will do the same thing.

I picked up sleeping Jackson and still wide awake Harrison about 10:45 and we all went to the pharmacy.
They all fell asleep in the car and I had an exciting time carrying them all upstairs for bed.

What a way to spend our first night with daddy away in our new house!

On a happier note, I spent the day painting one of the rooms.  We're calling it the music room because our piano ended up there and it has a sweet built in stereo system throughout the house including a turn table.
Here's a pic!
