Visiting Austin

Mom and I were talking recently about how sad we were to have this new little lady in our family and not have met her yet, so we hopped in the car a week or two later to change that!  We drove down to Austin for a wonderful visit with John, Bettina, Alex and new baby Julie.  It was so fun to get to know Alex better.

He welcomed us with a "hi Grandma, hi aunt Christine" and then continued to say that to us every time he saw us throughout the weekend. Including the whole drive anywhere we went. It was so sweet.

It was a real treat to hold sweet Julie.

Proud Grandma!

They have a squirrel in their backyard that is not afraid of people. He will let you get very close and loves to take peanuts from your hand.  John said that he even hopped right on his lap once!  He will come to their door and scratch asking for food.  What a nut!

"Hi Grandma, Hi Aunt Christine!"

I didn't take a picture with Skippy (their dog) because he looked so sad.  He has cancer, a tumor that had grown out of his gums.  We were sad to say goodbye to him. I'm not a huge dog person, but I kind of got attached to Skippy - such a sweet guy.  They had to put him down just a few days after we left.

We went to a local art fest and really enjoyed it.  The artists were very talented and interesting.  There was also a farmer's market there where we stocked up on some flavored Balsamics and Olive Oils.

I just wish we all lived closer!  It was over too quickly.
