Lincoln's Rough Day

I'm not exactly sure what happened at school, we didn't ever get that information, but Lincoln said that he had a rough day. Someone hurt his feelings twice and broke his favorite pencil. I thought a little outside time might cheer him up, so we rode bikes around for a little while, but he got really frustrated with getting started. Once he is started he does great, but just getting going is a little tricky. He took a break from that when he some some neighbor boys looking for frogs in the ditch and ended up stuck to a pokey vine in tears. One of those boys was very nice and patient with him as he helped him work his way back out. He and Jackson went back and forth all day being best friends and then fighting like crazy. When we were reading books before bed they both sat up at the same time and bonked heads. It was pure accident, but they both got mad and started beating on each other (is this a normal boy thing? I do NOT get it!). Once I got them separated and settled Lincoln was very sweet to me. He asked me to stay with him while he fell asleep because it was so comfortable for me to be around. He said you are nice and smart and some other nice things that I can't recall now. I am just writing this down because I want to remember the moment. It was very sweet. Usually I think of him as pretty tough skinned, but today he was very tender and fragile as I watched him struggle through his difficulties.

Me Too!

Not to be outdone by his little brother, Lincoln got to work and figured out the bike as well. We are now off together around the neighborhood like nobody's business.

Perfect Picnic Park

I told Jeff that I wanted to have a little adventure on Saturday and he found a great park nearby. It had gorgeous picnic areas and a "nature park" where the slide was built into the hill and there were lots of natural elements in the area. There were also some great trails to bike and hike. Jeff and I tried keeping up with the boys on their bikes. Next time we'll all bring our bikes - they are getting speedy!

Lincoln was upset the night before that "I always get to pick what's for dinner," so we let him plan the next day's lunch. He planned for tuna, chips, celery and juice so it made a great picnic menu.

Boys and Frogs

The boys are obsessed with catching frogs at the pond. The first thing Jackson wants to do in the morning is go and check to see if there are any frogs at the pond. He is required to get dressed first! At first they were timid and just watched them. Neither of the boys likes to get their hands dirty (unless they are playing in the mud!). This only lasted a few weeks. They started catching them in cups when we asked for help getting all of the frogs out of the hot tub so that we could get it all cleaned out and ready for use.

The neighbor girls showed them up though when they hopped right in and grabbed them bare handed. Now a neighbor boy has shown them how easy it is to do with a net. He even has a great little habitat that they can keep them in (for a few minutes until we make them return them to the pond).
