Poor Kid

Lincoln just can't seem to stop being sick. He's past his bout of allergies and asthma for the moment, but now he has some sort of stomach bug. Poor kid. We had arranged for a babysitter (thanks aunt Kim!) for he and Jackson today while we worked on the house, but opted to keep him with us so that we didn't spread anything. He was a good sport and helped us with our projects all day. We warned him over and over about the tack strips for the carpet, but he still managed to step on one while trying to go the bathroom.

I had a really fun moment with him today at lunchtime. He wanted to push the buttons on the microwave when we were making popcorn so I told him to find the "popcorn" button. We sounded it out together and then I had him sound out the letters to "start." He was SO excited that he could say all of the sounds together and it made a word. I think this is the first time it's really clicked with him that he can make words with the individual letter sounds.

We got some good laughs this morning on the way to the house. Jeff and I were busy talking about our plans and Lincoln interupted us saying, "look! A giant chicken!" It was an inflated turkey promoting some store, but he sure got our attention with those words. After that we started to watch for other inflated things and found a witch, two hot air balloons and a gorilla all within a few miles. For some reason it tickled us and we had a good laugh together.

Happy Birthday Jeff

Today has been very exciting, not a normal birthday type day at all, but preparations for our new house are being finalized as we are moving in TOMORROW! Today I finished putting in our faux wood flooring in the office and a portion of the living room. While I did that we had carpet installers working on the rest of the house (excluding already tiled areas). The house looks and SMELLS so different already even though the carpet isn't completely cut or stretched yet. The old carpet was super yucky and I'm so glad to have whatever odor that was (maybe smoke, maybe pets, both?) GONE! As my mom put it, "this place is starting to look livable!"

I have to put a HUGE special thanks out to mom and dad for all of their hard work in helping us work on the house. I wish I could say we're done, but you just have to look around a little to know that there are still a million things to be done. I don't think you ever really "finish" working on a house, do you?
