W A T E R

Jackson came to me and said, "Did you know I can spell water?"

"Wait just a second... "

[he turns his back to me and I can see he's holding something]

"O, Z, A, R, K, A!"

1st Grade Field Trip

It's fun to see the kids developing their circle of friends and field trips are a great way for me to get to know them (and their parents!). We had a great day at the zoo yesterday. Out of 22 (I think) kids in his class there were 15 parents. Needless to say, it didn't feel like a school field trip. We met up for lunch and ran into people along the way, but mostly we just did our own thing with the friends he wanted to hang out with.

This is Lincoln's friend Keegan. He talks about him all of the time and begs to have him over. We have done that, but need to do it more. When I asked Lincoln recently what he wanted to decorate his room with he
said, "Keegan!"

Lincoln was not so interested in the animals, other than spotting them in the cage he didn't care about watching them. He had a great day anyway with an opportunity to run around with his buddies, playing tag on the way to the next exhibit. They would have been perfectly happy to stay at the playground the entire time.

We did get a glimpse ("ok, you've been at the window 30 seconds, time to move on!") of the baby elephant. It was just small enough to still walk underneath mama after being born a week or two ago at a delicate 305 pounds.

Lost in 7 year old translation

Harrison awoke after sleeping for just an hour and was really fussy. I was worried he might have an ear infection or something that was hurting him, so just to be sure I wanted to give him some medicine to help him sleep. Lincoln was back in my room with me and I sent him to his dad in the kitchen with a request for some baby ibuprofen. I was pretty surprised when he came back with a cheese stick. I thought perhaps he brought us a snack while we were waiting for dad to bring the medicine. It's something Jeff would do. I waited a while longer and finally decided that something was miscommunicated along the way. We went to the kitchen and asked, "did Lincoln tell you we needed baby ibuprofen?"

We had a good laugh when the answer was, "No, he told me you needed baby protein."
