Summers are really hard since I started working. I love my job, but mostly I just want to be a mom during the summer. I work just three days a week and I call the other days my "mom" day in which I try to do as much with the kids as I can. Also laundry.
This week my mom came with us and we went to explore the new River Sport area south of downtown. We had originally planned to do the zoo or an animal park of some sort, but the big kids weren't too excited about it. I guess in my efforts to find something to make everyone happy I didn't do enough research. We got there around 10:30, but they didn't open until 1. There was however a really great covered park area that was free, so we hung out there for a while. We met Jeff for lunch and then came back to find long lines.
We stood in line for a long time and tried to figure out what all of the options were for us. The signs weren't very clear, though I did learn that being over 48" qualifies you as an adult. That jumped the price from $15/kid to $35. I didn't want to spend that much money and then learned that it didn't even include everything. After all of that waiting around, we decided to just go home and swim!
On the way home mom mentioned that she had never seen the new outdoor area around the Crystal Bridge. We decided to go and check it out with her and ended up having a blast and spending the full two hours our parking space would allow. This was the first time we had been there when the splash pad was working.
It was the most fun splash pad we've ever been to. It seemed to have an Oklahoma weather theme and you never knew what would happen next. It has sound effects of weather and animals and keeps you guessing whether you will get a light mist or a downpour.
We spent some time trying to dry off in the clever park area. I really like this place! We decided that we had a lot more fun at the free places and we were really glad we opted out of spending so much at the other place. I think we will enjoy that someday too and they are adding even more attractions; Tuesday just wasn't that day.
To close off the evening we had battling guess who games.
