Friday was our first official day of summer around here. Our cousins Sarah and Jeffrey were out of school too, so they joined us for our first day of summer fun. We headed out to Martin Nature Center for some nice hiking and perfect weather. The boys all ended up in orange shirts... which turned out nice as they did not camouflage well in the bends of the winding paths. It was hard for Jackson to keep up with the bigger kids, so he spent a lot of his time on my shoulders, which seems to be his new favorite spot.
We had a relaxing afternoon and then the working parents joined us later in the evening. Aunt Amy was kind enough to send Jeff and I out on a date and took the evening shift with the cousins. I thought that was kind enough, but you should see what a clean house we came home to! Amy has always amazed me with her strength, joy in doing and being, and her amazing way with children. I just watch her in awe and wonder if I could ever do half of what she does.
I chose to go to an old favorite restaurant that night. Not too much food has appealed to me lately and a bowl of my standby... nothing else like it in the whole world... wonton soup was in order. We were surprised to overhear a conversation while we were there that it was the LAST NIGHT of the Bangkok. They sold the restaurant and while it will still be Thai food, they have a new chef and a new menu. Now I know I have a few readers who will want to know this - the people who sold the restaurant have opened a new one called Thai Stop (Memorial and May) and it has the same menu and recipes as the Bangkok did. It's not all gone forever, we'll have to run over and see what it is like.
