I remembered what painting with a two year old was like from previous expreience (note the paint all over the wall on this picture of Jackson), so I put Harrison down for a nap before we started this project. We wrote the boys names in tape on a large white paper (this part was a little tricky - especially the curvy letters).
As we finished the tape part we realized that Harrison was just not ready for a nap, so we let him join in on the fun. I was amazed at how precise and clean everyone kept this project. They were all (even Harrison) very intentional about their colors and what they were making. I told Harrison that I would wash his brush for him when he was ready to change colors and he would patiently wait to use another color while I washed his brush. I couldn't believe it! He also came out fairly clean after the whole deal. Quite a contrast to my previous experiences!
The kids really enjoyed the painting part, but the best part is peeling the tape off and seeing your name in bright white. Jackson wrote on his with a sharpie after it was finished, "Jackson's best art project." I think someone is proud of his creation!
Harrison loved the animals from afar. If anything got too close he was terrified that they would eat his shirt. I'm not sure how that phobia began, but it was pretty hilarious to watch. Here he is being protected from a shirt eating chicken on dad's leg.
Life is safer in the play area.
