Determination

So as the rains come, plans continue to get cancelled. I can't count the number of times we've planned to go to the swim park in town... and yet we haven't been yet! Well, on Friday I was determined to make SOMETHING happen. The kids and I really needed out of the house and my mom had the day off. We planned to meet at the Omniplex (science museum) at 9am. It was sprinkling a little as we were leaving (no surprise), but it was pouring down the rest of the way. I was nervous driving in it. I kept thinking about what I would do if I ended up in a flash flood of running water with two babies strapped into car seats. The thought frightened me as much as the rain and I determined that I wouldn't come anywhere NEAR any deep water.

We made it just fine and mom was there to help us get inside. They looked at my pass as usual, but this time they asked for ID. In the past they've always let any two adults and six kids in, but now they're cracking down and your name has to be in the pass. Mom was going to have to pay or we could add a guest to our pass for an additional fee. I decided to add the guest and took Jackson back to guest services to take care of that. Lincoln and mom stayed at the front to play. It took a while as this was a new thing and they didn't really know what they were doing yet. As we returned to find Mom and Lincoln I passed the bathroom and heard Lincoln saying, "Mama mama." I went in to find him in just a shirt. He'd made it to the bathroom, but not to the toilet. I found out later that while mom was trying to clean it up he bolted into the museum in nothing but a t-shirt. She said she had to chase him full blast as he was determined to streak as far as he could without getting caught.

I wasn't prepared for an accident... we'd been doing so well with that! So, off we went, back into the downpour for a trip to buy new pants. We might have skipped the museum altogether if we hadn't just spent $20 to have mom come. On the way to Wal-mart we saw a car stuck in high water. They people looked ok and had help, but it brought back my fears. There came a point where the road we were on was under water. Lots of people were driving through it, but it was a big NO on my list. I stopped traffic both directions to turn around.... just wasn't going to do it.

We got redressed and headed back for the museum. We actually had a fun time there and played in just one small area for about an hour and a half. Jackson was getting tired and it was lunchtime, so we decided to check out the cafeteria. We ordered some food and realized quickly that we had no money. I'd left my wallet in the car after the Wal-mart trip. We cancelled our order and headed out. Lincoln was confused and sad that he didn't get to have his cheetos. Mom bought him some at a vending machine. I was done. We decided to meet back by the Wal-mart and go to Chili's.

I was following Mom, so I noticed when she took a wrong turn. I followed her anyhow, figuring we'd just find a different place to eat. We did. We stopped at a busy pizza place. I told Lincoln to stand really close to me while I got Jackson out of the car because the parking lot was very busy. I got Jackson unbuckled and turned to find Lincoln gone. It scared me so much. I called out to him and got nothing. It seemed like a long time, but it was probably less than a minute that he came around the corner from the neighboring restaurant carrying a big rock... "look mom!" I retrieved sleeping Jackson and we headed inside. They had a big long wait and grumpy people waiting for take-out food, but we decided it was better to stay than try to get everyone back in the cars and back out somewhere else. I finally let Lincoln have his cheetos after almost an hour of "can I have my cheetos NOW?" He still hadn't had any "good for my body" food, but it was time to let him eat. Lunch went ok and we were all ready for a good nap once we got home. Mom even called to make sure we made it safely.

We had plenty of laughs about all of our mishaps. Maybe it's better that so many other plans were cancelled this week!

It Just Keeps Raining

We've had rain here for 18 days in a row now. That is a lot of rain. We HAD been praying for rain, but now I think everyone's prayers have changed to "please send the rain to someone else who needs it more!"

Life has been very hectic here. Gail moved into a new office about a week ago. There was a lot of preparation (still is) going into that which involved much of the family. Jeff helped with the computer side of things alongside his dad. Jeff has been working a ton. His team expanded from 8 to 18 within a week and they completely changed their task. I don't even know what they are doing now, but it is a big deal and he has been working very hard. He comes home late and goes in early and is still trying to help out at home or with the new office. They have also thrown new projects his way. I hope that things slow down for him... it's just a lot. Often he doesn't have time for lunch or even bathroom breaks. He likes what he does, but it is stressful.

Grandma Davis is my main concern right now though. She fell last Friday in the night and broke her hip. We have been so careful watching her during the days, having people with her at all times so that she won't walk alone, but it happened when she got up in the night to go to the bathroom. She had been doing better than I've seen her since we've been here. She was up and talking with us and really having discussions and things. I was really enjoying her, and now...

She has developed pneumonia and is fighting for every breath. They put her on life support and you just can't believe it to look at her. She opened her eyes some while we were there visiting, but didn't look at either of us, just blinked some. I held her hand, but no response. I think it's a struggle just to lay there unmoving.

My aunt Sue has been diagnosed with ALS and spent a week seeing doctors at the Mayo clinic in Arizona. It is such a terrible thing. I feel like she has been given the short end of the stick when it comes to health. She has had such struggles. It seems so unfair for such a loving and giving person. I know that it isn't about fairness, but I hate so much to see her suffering and yet she keeps on giving and loving. She even gives my Webkinz pets gifts all the time.

We have a busy week planned, but plans don't seem to be coming to fruition lately... I might write another post about one of those events. We'll see what happens. Tomorrow is Kim's birthday, Wednesday is the Fourth of July and Friday we leave for our family reunion in Orlando.
